Raise a glass to summer as the Almonte Craft Beer Fest returns to the beautiful grounds of Almonte Old Town Hall (14 Bridge Street) on Friday, July 24, for an evening of local craft beverages, live music, great food and stunning riverside views.

I recently spoke with representatives from Alto regarding Federal Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon’s review of Alto’s What We Heard Reports. These documents summarize feedback from recent public and Indigenous consultations on the proposed high-speed rail project between Toronto and Québec City. 

John Jordan, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, announced today that the Ontario government is providing 7 non-profit organizations and municipalities in the riding with $658,500 in funding this year through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Capital grant stream. This investment will help improve community spaces and expand access to local programs and activities.

Lanark County is developing a Natural Heritage System (NHS) Strategy to identify and map natural areas, habitats and ecological connections that support biodiversity and environmental health – and residents’ voices are a critical part of the process.

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills will begin tree removal work in a small area of Gemmill Park in Almonte on Monday, July 13. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

This work is required as part of the County Road 29 Watermain Project and will take place mainly along the access road to Well 6.

This year’s annual Warden’s Golf Tournament on August 14 will support a new Lanark County youth initiative – the “Active Kids, Bright Futures Program.”

Warden Richard Kidd (Beckwith Reeve) proposed the program, which was approved by Lanark County Council last month and is a long-term investment option for revenue generated through the annual golf tournament. 

As the next municipal term begins, Ontario’s elected officials face complex challenges, big decisions public scrutiny and a steep learning curve.
