Climate Action Plan

In May 2024, Mississippi Mills Council approved a workplan to develop a local Climate Action Plan (CAP) using the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) Framework. The CAP will cover Mississippi Mills as a community but also internally as a corporation. The goal of the CAP is to understand the current emissions of the Municipality, set reduction targets, and develop attainable goals that allow the Municipality to reduce emissions and meet the set targets.

The PCP framework guides the development of the CAP within the following milestones:

  1. Develop a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions inventory for both community and corporate emissions

  2. Set GHG reduction targets

  3. Create goals that can be implemented to meet the GHG reduction targets

  4. Implement goals

  5. Monitor progress and effectiveness of implementation against GHG emissions

Project Updates:

Progress on the Climate Action Plan (CAP) has been occurring behind the scenes. Council approved Part A of the CAP at the May 5, 2026 meeting, outlining the results of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and an explanation of where improvements can be made. At the same meeting, Council asked staff to proceed with Part B of the CAP—setting GHG emissions reduction targets, carrying out community consultation, creating actions to meet the targets and plans on how each action should be carried out. Part A, Part B, and the associated community feedback will inform the final CAP.

Staff are excited to present information on Part A and collect feedback for Part B at the next Public Information Centre (PIC) on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the John Levi Community Centre, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
