Thinking about running for municipal office?

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is hosting free candidate information sessions in Lanark County this July. These sessions are designed to help you understand what it takes to run and serve in local government.

As Ontario prepares for the October 2026 municipal elections, AMO is offering a dynamic lineup of information sessions and workshops to support aspiring candidates and current elected officials.

The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election is officially open.

Nominations for the 2026 Municipal Election officially open on May 1.

Nomination papers are available online and candidate packages can be picked up at the Municipal Office as of Monday, April 27. We strongly encourage candidates to contact our Elections team at 613-256-2064 or elections@mississippimills.ca to make an appointment to file your nomination papers.

Ontario residents are encouraged to review and update their school support designation with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) by June 1, 2026 to ensure accurate information is provided to Elections Ontario before the municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026.

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is offering programs designed to support aspiring candidates and returning elected officials. Whether you are considering your first run for office, seeking re-election, represent an underrepresented community, or a youth, we have a program tailored for you. 

The Municipalities of Beckwith, Carleton Place, Drummond/North Elmsley, Lanark Highlands, Mississippi Mills, Montague, Perth, Smiths Falls, and Tay Valley are currently seeking interested applicants for appointment to the Joint Lanark County 2026 Election Compliance Audit Committee.

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is offering a series of workshops for young people thinking about running for municipal office in the October 2026 elections. These sessions will provide insights and strategies to build your understanding and confidence around how to become a candidate and running a campaign.

The 2026 Municipal Election is this October and it’s important that all Mississippi Mills residents check to see if you are on the Voters’ List and not to assume you are on the list.
