Nomination Period Now Open for 2026 Municipal Election

The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election is officially open.

Nomination papers are available online and candidate packages can be picked up at the Municipal Office as of Monday, April 27. We strongly encourage candidates to contact our Elections team at 613-256-2064 or elections@mississippimills.ca to make an appointment to file your nomination papers.

Eligible candidates may file nomination papers for the following offices:

Municipal Council

  • Mayor
  • Deputy Mayor
  • Councillor – Almonte Ward (2 positions)
  • Councillor – Pakenham Ward (1 position)
  • Councillor – Ramsay Ward (2 positions)

School Board Trustees

  • Upper Canada District School Board (English-Public)
  • Conseil des ecoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (French-Public)
  • Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (English-Separate)
  • Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (French-Separate)

In addition, eligible individuals, corporations or trade unions may register as Third Party Advertisers.

Key dates:

  • May 1 to August 20: Nomination period for candidates
  • May 1 to October 23: Registration period for third party advertisers
  • June 1: Deadline to update school support designation
  • August 21: Nomination Day (deadline for nominations is 2 p.m.)
  • August 24: Certification of nominations by 4 p.m.
  • August 24: Official list of candidates to be posted with any declarations of acclamation
  • September 1: Preliminary list of electors released to certified candidates
  • September 8 to November 2: Election signs are permitted in accordance with elections by-laws.

Make sure you're on the Voters' List

As of January 1, 2024, Elections Ontario is now responsible for maintaining the Voters’ List for municipal and school board elections. (Previously, this was managed by MPAC).

What does this mean for you?

  • All voter registrations, updates and corrections must now be done through Elections Ontario
  • Check or update your information with Elections Ontario
  • Municipalities and MPAC no longer manage voter information
