Lanark County is adjusting its winter operations procedures in light of a province-wide salt shortage. An earlier start to winter weather, increased weather events and cold snaps along with supply issues have resulted in the significant limitations to salt availability.
As a result of the constraints, Lanark County Public Works will be switching to a sand/salt mix rather than straight salt for all roads.
At the January 27, 2026 meeting, Council proclaimed January as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in the Municipality of Mississippi Mills.

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $20 million through the new Market Diversification and Trade Resiliency Initiative to help farmers, food processors and agribusinesses sell more Ontario grown products around the world. The Initiative will fund a variety of projects to increase competitiveness for farmers and agribusinesses and support their expansion into new and international markets as part of the provincial government’s plan to protect Ontario’s agribusiness sector.
As part of its plan to protect Ontario, the government is launching the second intake of the Rural Ontario Development Program, a $20 million investment to strengthen the economies of rural communities, build infrastructure and keep workers on the job. The announcement was made at the 2026 annual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference, with applications opening immediately for rural municipalities, businesses, Indigenous groups and not-for-profit organizations.v
