While at the 2024 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference held last week in Toronto, Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry chaired a panel discussion on gender based violence. It marked the first time the issue has been discussed at a large convening venue of municipal officials in Ontario.
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills joins the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) in calling on the province to commit to reviewing the provincial-municipal fiscal framework as part of the upcoming provincial budget. In early January, AMO, a non-profit and non-partisan organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments, highlighted the need for a Social and Economic Prosperity Review as part of its Pre-Budget Submission to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.

This morning, we had a full house for our first Mississippi Mills Business Breakfast of 2024 at the Almonte Civitan Club, including 25-30 new attendees!. Guests had the opportunity to network, enjoy a delicious breakfast served up by Almonte Civitan Club volunteers, and hear from guest speaker, Executive Coach Tina Collins.
Mississippi Mills Council members and staff have returned from the 2024 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto, after joining almost 1,900 participants from across 300 municipalities, January 21-23. Council participated in three ministerial delegations, meeting with the Honourable Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure; Parliamentary Assistant Trevor Jones to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson; as well as MPP Stephane Sarrazin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy.

Council and Committee of the Whole will hold their regular meetings on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Regular session is scheduled to start at 6:00 p. m. , beginning with the Annual Land Acknowledgment Ceremony, followed by Committee of the Whole.
