Ward Ramsay

I am a long time resident of Mississippi Mills having lived in the area since high-school days with a few short absences for work early in my career. I live in rural Ramsay on a farm with two good friends, Helen and Silvie sharing my home. My daughter, Tracy, her husband Phil, and my granddaughter, Joey, live nearby.

Mississippi Mills is home to me. I have wonderful friends and neighbours who are always there for one another. I can drive east for a few kilometres and be in the capital of Canada. I can drive west and, within an hour, be in a rural area with vast tracts of forest and lakes. What a great place to live! Who would want to live anywhere else?

I am a retired Registered Nurse having spent 40 years in positions from front line nursing to senior management. For most of my life, I have been an active farmer, having converted my dairy herd to beef cattle a few years ago. My real passion is farming and maintaining a rural lifestyle.

Being a nurse and farmer, my educational background is predictable. I have a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Ottawa and a Masters in Business from the University of Guelph.

Upon retiring from active Nursing, I decided to run for a Councillor position in the ward of Ramsay. Presently I am a member of the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority and the North Lanark Historical Society, as well as the Mississippi Mills Bicentennial Agriculture Working Group and the Mill of Kintail Advisory Committee.

My philosophy is that we do not dwell on what is not working well but how can it be improved on.
The challenge is to come up with credible alternatives and clearly explain your decisions.
