The Canadian Gazette is a weekly newspaper distributed by Metroland Media. They offer print advertising and flyer distribution. You can also reach out to their local editor with invitations to grand opening events or to suggest a story related to your new business.

The Millstone News non-profit and volunteer-run newspaper for the people of Mississippi Mills, Ontario. The accept submissions of relevance and interest to our community.

Submissions must be sent in text or word format with photographs attached. They cannot accepts ads intended for print advertising.

All contributions must be accompanied by the name, telephone number, street address and e-mail address of the contributor. Only the name of the contributor will be published. Other personal information will be retained by the Millstone in order to communicate with the contributor and will be deleted within two years of the last contact.

 The Humm

theHumm is a free, monthly, independent newspaper covering Arts, Entertainment and Ideas in the small towns and communities of the oVal (Ottawa Valley). Circulation ranges from 7,000 to 9,000 copies, depending on the season.The paper has been in publication since 1998. It is designed, edited and published by Kris and Rob Riendeau, but its contributors and columnists come from throughout the Valley. They are talented individuals who are dedicated to promoting and enhancing their communities. Because of their comprehensive Events Calendar and coverage of the local arts & entertainment scene, theHumm reaches both residents and tourists who have an interest in shopping, dining, and being entertained.

Where are they?

Between 7,000 and 9,000 copies of theHumm are distributed each month in Almonte, Perth, Carleton Place, Westport, Arnprior, Stittsville, Pakenham, Lanark, Balderson, Carp, Burnstown, Smiths Falls, and select spots in Ottawa.

Business listed on this guide must be open to the public and be an experience rather than a service (for example: Maple Sugar Bushes and Golf Courses are listed here).

Things to do in Mississippi Mills - Almonte, Pakenham and Ramsay 

(Facebook Group)

...is a free Facebook group created by Mississippi Mills municipal staff for anyone in Mississippi Mills to share information about events, activities and things to do in Almonte, Appleton, Blakeney, Clayton, Pakenham or Ramsay. While this group will not allow "advertising" it is a good place to share special events - grand openings, celebrations etc.

This group is open for anyone to do their own posts. It is monitored by admins.

Help Wanted Mississippi Mills (Facebook Group)

...is a free Facebook group created by Municipal staff as an online location for employers in Almonte, Ramsay & Pakenham (and surrounding areas within commuting distance) to share job opportunities. Job seekers and trades people looking for contracts are welcome to share as well. Group members add their own posts.

Mississippi Mills Facebook Page is operated by variety Municipal staff. If you have a special event you would like our page to share please message the page. We share posts related to events and attractions that would be of interest to a large number of page visitors. This can include grand openings, changes in hours, special events and promotions. We may share directly from your post or ask you to send us a graphic.

Business Support Organizations

At the present time Mississippi Mills does not have a dedicated Chamber of Commerce or BIA (Business Improvement Association) however there are some great outside organizations along with volunteer networking groups who want to help.

Destination Almonte

Destination Almonte is an informal group of business owners primarily located in Downtown Almonte who work together on joint promotion and special events. Feel free to reach out to them if you wish to join their organization or have Almonte specific questions about being in business. This is a volunteer group so it may take them a couple of days to respond. 

Pakenham Business and Tourism

Pakenham Business and Tourism (PBTA) is a group of business owners located in and around the village of Pakenham. These business owners and community volunteers share a vision for Pakenham and would love to hear from you if you're considering setting up in the area. This is a volunteer group so it may take them a couple of days to respond.

Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce

Mississippi Mills Businesses are encouraged to join the Carleton Place & District Chamber of Commerce. Many existing Mississippi Mills Businesses are members already. The Chamber's dedicated staff are committed to supporting the goals of their members through their products and services. Valley Heartland Community Futures Organization

Valley Heartland is an innovation-driven, non-profit organization whose mandate is to support entrepreneurship, job creation, and assist rural communities in developing and implementing strategies for dealing with a changing economic environment.

 Small Business Advisory Centre

Are you thinking about starting a small business, need help with questions on your existing business? Are you starting a business in the Lanark, Smiths Falls, Perth, Carleton Place, Mississippi Mills area? If so, the Small Business Advisory Centre is here to support you, the entrepreneur!

The Small Business Advisory Centre is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in partnership with the Town of Smiths Falls and funding support from the County of Lanark and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. A business advisor is available (by appointment) to meet with you whether you have questions about starting or growing a small business. The advisory services are free of charge and provide you with the information required to get your business going and keep it running smoothly and profitably. The Centre in the local service provider for programs such as Summer Company and Starter Company Plus and they offer many informative webinars and events throughout the year for businesses. The centre and personnel are very resourceful and can steer you to various other sources for more specialized information, if need.

The Small Business Advisory office provides confidential business advisory services to small business start-ups, as well as on-going support for existing small businesses. They are also a business information source designed to point entrepreneurs in the right direction whether they are just starting out or growing their business.

Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization

Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (OHTO) is one of 13 Regional Tourism Organizations (RTO) created by the Ontario Government as a means to more effectively coordinate tourism development efforts and increase visitation to the Province. OHTO was founded in 2010 and operates as a not-for-profit organization, governed by an industry-led Board of Directors.

OHTO’s mandate is to build and support a competitive tourism region, known as Ontario’s Highlands, through marketing and product development. OHTO functions in partnership with established and recognized tourism organizations, municipalities and entities within the region to move forward in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.

The Ontario’s Highlands region covers a large portion of eastern Ontario, which includes Mississippi Mills. It is one of the largest regions in the Province and is the only region that is entirely rural.
