Mississippi Mills follows the principal that growth should pay for growth.  As a result, new development projects are required to pay Development Charges to off set the costs of expansions and upgrades to municipal services, parks and institutions to accommodate more residents in our community.

Development Charges are calculated and payable at the time a Building Permit is issued and are subject to a set fee established at the beginning of each year. Charges to both the local municipality and County of Lanark are applicable.

Development charges are adjusted annually on January 1st of each year, in accordance with the Statistics Canada Non-residential Building Construction Price Index for Ottawa-Gatineau. The following rates are applicable as of January 1, 2024:

PLEASE NOTE: As required by the More Homes Built Faster Act, the calculated development charges will be phased-in over a five-year period as follows:

  • 2024 - 80% of the maximum charge

  • 2025 - 85% of the maximum charge

  • 2026 - 90% of the maximum charge

  • 2027 - 95% of the maximum charge

  • 2028 to expiry - 100% of the maximum charge
