MEDIA RELEASE: OUTDOOR AIR QUALITY IN MUCH OF THE LEEDS, GRENVILLE AND LANARK REGION WILL CAUSE HEALTH RISKS

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for much of Eastern Ontario including the Counties of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. Special Air Quality Statement in Effect

Due to smoke plumes from the forest fire in the Calabogie area, Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Mississippi Mills.

 The migration of the smoke may cause poor air quality and reduced visibility in our area today and possibly into Tuesday, June 6.

 Those who have lung or heart disease, are pregnant, children, older adults or people who work outdoors are at a higher risk of experiencing health effects due to smoke from the wildfire.

Total Burn Ban in Effect - June 1, 2023

Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) has changed the Municipality's burning status to Level 5 - Total Burn Ban. With conditions expected to remain dry throughout the weekend, MMFD would like to remind the public that this ban will remain in place until conditions dampen. 

NOTE: All open air fires are prohibited during a fire ban, even those properties that have an Open Air Fire Permit. This ban applies to all types of burning, including campfires and fireworks.
