November 11th is Remembrance Day in Canada. Due to Covid precautions we can not mark the occasion in the traditional fashion. However there are still wonderful opportunities to remember and honour the sacrifices of our veterans. It is important we continue to protect the vulnerable in our communities as we plan to celebrate safely at home.  For 2020 in person ceremonies will only be for invited guests.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2020 - November 1 to 7

Mississippi Mills welcomes Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week by focusing on ways to keep our residents safe.  To mark Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2020, The Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) is encouraging everyone to test their carbon monoxide alarms and ensure all fuel-burning appliances, chimneys and outside vents in their home are frequently inspected to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Media Release - MMFD Ottawa Street

The Mississippi Mills Fire Department responded to a fire inside industrial equipment just before 2 pm this afternoon on Ottawa Street, Almonte.  Crews from Almonte and Pakenham Crews quickly extinguished a fire inside equipment used to roast coffee.  Damage is estimated at $20,000.  The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.

On behalf of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I would like to thank Chief Brown, Deputy Chief Williams and the Mississippi Mills Fire Department for their response to a structure fire over the last days. A barn on Appleton Side Road storing 1500-2000 large round bales caught fire with the call coming in at 2:30am Wednesday October 21st.
