Council recognized three local residents recently inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame. Paul Moses, Brian Sonnenburg and Doug Sonnenburg were inducted as members of the 1974 Ottawa Sooners Canadian Championship Football Team during a May 28 ceremony. Fifty years ago, this 1974 Sooners team won the Little Grey Cup national junior football championship – a first for the City of Ottawa.

Mississippi Mills All My Relations is partnering with the Municipality of Mississippi Mills to host a Summer Solstice Celebration on Thursday, June 20 at Riverfront Park in Almonte, bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

This celebration, open to everyone in the community, will include Indigenous ceremony, music, jingle dancing, crafts, Inuit games and songs by Almonte’s Rhythm and Song! Community Choir.

Seniors Month has been celebrated in the month of June since 1984, and this year marks 40years celebrating Ontario’s outstanding seniors and recognizing the positive impact they have made in our lives.

Across this great province, seniors have made enormous contributions in building the Ontario we all enjoy today, and they are the fastest growing demographic group. By 2046, the number of adults aged 65 and over is projected to increase significantly from over 2 million, since 2021, to 4.4 million.

Mississippi Mills All My Relations (MMAMR) is participating in the Canadian Library, a community-engaged art initiative of 8000 books to honour Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
