In opening comments, Mayor Lowry acknowledged May 5th as Red Dress Day 2021, a National Day of Awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two spirited people.  Residents may have seen red dresses hanging on porches or trees in their neighbourhoods, while others chose to wear red to mark the day and to raise awareness of this tragic situation.

 

Michael Rikley-Lancaster and Andy Williams spoke to Council about their experiences in Mississippi Mills and the importance of PRIDE Mississippi Mills. A report for supporting inclusion awareness will be presented by staff at the upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting on May 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm.

 

The Planning Department for the Municipality of Mississippi Mills would like to apologize for the oversight at Tuesday night’s Public Meeting regarding the omission of reading out all comments submitted regarding the zoning by-law amendment for 4676 Dark's Side Road. All public submissions will become part of the official minutes of Tuesday night's Council Meeting Minutes. Council members have been sent the public’s original submissions (verbatim) regarding the zoning by-law amendment. All submissions and comments received will be included and addressed in the staff report to the Committee of the Whole, scheduled for May 18th, 2021.  All submissions will make part of the public record. A Public Meeting for Official Plan Amendment (OPA) 29 regarding Prime Agricultural Area Designation Review was held.  A second Public Meeting will be held for any additional public comment in the fall. Council discussed the timeline for OPA 29 and directed staff to extend the public comment period to September 30, 2021.

 

Due to technical difficulties the Committee of the Whole meeting was unable to livestream and therefor the meeting was not called to order. The meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday May 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm.
