Budget Spotlights 2026 #5: Public Library
The Mississippi Mills Public Library (MMPL) is committed to inspiring lifelong learning, ensuring equitable access to information, advancing knowledge, and fostering a strong, connected community. Its vision is to cultivate an informed, engaged, creative, and inclusive population.
MMPL operates two welcoming branches:
- Almonte Branch – 155 High Street
- Pakenham Branch – 128 MacFarlane Street
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Christine Row, a dedicated team of 14 staff members—including two student employees—works to deliver exceptional library services. Governance is provided by a Board of Trustees, an independent body of 7 to 9 members, primarily drawn from the community, along with one representative from Mississippi Mills Council. Trustees are appointed for four-year terms and are responsible for ensuring the library meets the evolving needs of residents.
Beyond traditional collections of books and media, MMPL offers a wide array of services and resources, including:
- Tech Tutor sessions to build digital literacy
- 3D printing programs that spark creativity and innovation
- Interlibrary loan services for expanded access
- Digitization lab to preserve personal and local history
- Meeting spaces for community use
- Specialized services for seniors
