The Municipality of Mississippi Mills has been working with the property owner of 38 Main Street East in Almonte on next steps to stabilize the building.

Our Chief Building Official issued an Order on Wednesday, December 20 requiring the property owner to provide a plan, prepared by a Professional Engineer, along with several milestones which need to be met. The intent of the Order is to stabilize the belltower and reduce the area of the road closure as much as possible.

On Friday, December 22, a new Order was issued, providing the property owner with an additional option to stabilize the building. This option provides the property owner to authorize the Municipality to implement a stabilization plan at the property owner’s cost. Once stabilization works are complete, the property owner will need to make a written request to the Municipality to modify the road closure.

This Order does not affect the temporary road closure currently in place but does provide the property owner an additional option to achieve the stabilization of the tower and then modify the road closure.

The road closure will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.

Updates on this matter will continue to be provided on the municipal website and social media channels as they become available.
