Highlights of the February 15, 2022 Council Meeting - Updated 2/17

 A public meeting held at last evening’s Council Meeting for a zoning bylaw amendment for Twin Elm Farms in Ramsay. Both senior staff and the agent from McIntosh Perry gave presentations outlining the proposed changes. A report will be brought forward for  approval at a future meeting. Any comments received to date regarding the amendment will be considered in the report.

 Council considered a resolution from the Town of Aurora to support the dissolution of the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT). Council referred the resolution to staff for further input and advice.

 Council put forward their support to the Association of Ontario Municipality’s (AMO) request for the Province to re-examine the local funding of provincial hospitals, healthcare funding is a provincial and federal responsibility.

 The draft 2022 Budget was considered by Committee of the Whole during the meeting last night. The following amendments have been recommended to Council for consideration:

  • Removal of $45,000 for a ½ tonne truck in Public Works.
  • Removal of $15,000 for a LED Projector at Almonte Old Town Hall.
  • Remove $15,000 for the Kirkland Gazebo and allocate $15,000 to reserves for project completion in 2023.
  • Remove the stone work project for the Old Registry Office for 2022.
  • Reduce Council Honourariums from $8,500 to $3,500 for 2022.
  • Remove $12,500 for the Highway 29 cemetery.
  • Remove $18,000 for line painting at the Gemmil Park basketball court.
  • Remove $10,000 for the dog park and allocate $10,000 to reserves.
  • Allocate $10,000 to reserves for the cenotaph fence, and endeavour to work with the ATV and Snowmobile clubs.

 These recommendations and the recommendation to approve the 2022 budget as amended will be considered at the upcoming March 1 Council meeting.                 

The following other items were heard by the Committee of the Whole that will be brought forward at an upcoming Council meeting for final approval:

  • Water Storage Unit update
  • Sandbag Policy

The municipal office at 3131 Old Perth Road is only open to the public for payments and for scheduled appointments only. Only one (1) person is permitted at the front desk at a time, and all members of the public are required to wear a face mask while in the building. Staff will continue to check emails and voice messages regularly to continue to serve residents; please allow additional time for a response. Water samples can be dropped off at the Almonte Library branch. Payments and documents can continue to be dropped off in our secure dropbox/safe at the back of the municipal office.
