The Municipality of Mississippi Mills has reopened Main Street to alternating two-way traffic, effective February 13, 2024.
Following the completion of temporary stabilization works at 38 Main Street East (Dungarvon Building), the exclusionary zone has been reduced to allow for the opening of one lane. To permit both eastbound and westbound traffic to use this lane, it will be open with temporary traffic lights to facilitate alternating two-way traffic. Union Street North will remain closed because the exclusion zone in this area was not able to be reduced.
Specific details regarding the modifications are below, along with a road closure map (see above).
Main Street (Martin Street to Mill Street):
One lane of Main Street is now open in alternating directions. Temporary traffic lights have been installed within the exclusionary zone to facilitate traffic flowboth eastbound and westbound. It is very important that motorists obey the traffic lights to manage the alternating eastbound and westbound traffic.
Union Street North:
Union Street North remains fully closed at the intersection of Union Street North and Main Street.
Union Street South:
Union Street South remains fully closed at the intersection of Union Street South and Main Street.
Local traffic access to Union Street South from Queen Street is limited to Union Street South residents only, no through traffic is permitted to Main Street.
While efforts have been made to enhance traffic flow, delays are still expected in the area.
Alternative routes are strongly recommended to minimize congestion.
With this modification, a temporary speed limit reduction to 30 km/h has been put in place for Main Street, between Martin Street and Union Street.
