Council Proclaims May 5, 2024 as World Pulmonary Hypertension Day

Mississippi Mills Council passed a proclamation at their April 23, 2024 meeting to declare May 5, 2024 as World Pulmonary Hypertension Day.

Almonte Old Town Hall and the Falls will also be illuminated in purple on May 5 in recognition of World PH Day.

The proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS, Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare but very complex and serious lung disease, which is progressive and potentially fatal. PH can strike people of all backgrounds, ages, and genders.

Almonte Cenotaph Renovation Project Update – May 3, 2024

The main portion of work for the renovations to the Almonte Cenotaph has been completed. Further work will continue over the next few weeks, focusing on cleaning the Cenotaph structure and repainting the names.

Flower beds will be planted by the Almonte & District Horticultural Society in the next few weeks as well.

Thank you for your patience during the minor traffic delays that occurred as part of this project.

As many are aware, as part of the current Cenotaph renovations, the large tree beside the Cenotaph had to be removed due to its failing condition becoming a safety hazard.

Although this was unavoidable, the team behind the Cenotaph renovations were determined to find some type of reuse for any salvageable wood. The Almonte District High School woodworking shop has been given a large piece to do something creative with in the future.
