Youth swimming in a pool

On September 5th, 2023, Council recognized the importance of aquatics programs to our residents of all ages and the barrier that is created by high fees. Mississippi Mills does not have a swimming pool and has relied on our neighbouring communities for this service. To make aquatics financially more accessible Council has set aside $25,000 for 2023 and 2024 to reimburse Mississippi Mills residents the additional fees they are charged at neighbouring swimming pools as non-residents.

It will take some time for staff to develop the details and logistics of the one-year pilot reimbursement program. When the program is ready it will be announced by the Council of Mississippi Mills. The pilot will be reviewed in early 2024 and again later as part of the Community Services Master Plan.

Next steps:

  • Residents: Save receipts from fall registration! The pilot reimbursement program will be retroactive from September 1, 2023.

  • Council will announce when program is live, aiming for October 2023.
