From the Government of Ontario

The Ontario Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant (Winter 2023-24) is a grant program that will provide funds to eligible faith-based, cultural, 2SLGBTQQIA+, First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous organizations and communities to enhance or implement measures to ensure community spaces remain safe and secure from hate-motivated incidents.

In response to the recent rise in hate incidents in Ontario, the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism is providing one-time funding to eligible organizations with priority given to organizations that primarily serve Jewish and Muslim communities (organizations must meet eligibility criteria).

Applications are processed in the order they are received with priority given to organizations that primarily serve Jewish and Muslim communities. Disbursement of grant funding ends once the program budget is spent.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant must hold gatherings of religious, spiritual or cultural significance, at least once a month as part of regular activities. 2SLGBTQQIA+ organizations that primarily hold 2SLGBTQQIA+ annual cultural gatherings are also eligible. The applicant must be a registered charity or not-for-profit corporation without share capital, First Nations band council, First Nations tribal council or First Nations education authority.

Eligible organizations in Ontario can receive a one-time grant of $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000, as well as additional funding for non-registered chapters that meet eligibility guidelines.

Fall 2023-24 Ontario Anti-Hate Security and Prevention approved grant recipients applying for a grant in Winter 2023-24 will be eligible for top-up funding ($5,000, $7,500, $10,000) to bring them to the Winter 2023-24 grant amounts ($10,000, $15,000, $20,000). For clarity, this ensures all eligible organizations will receive the same amount of funding in 2023-24, regardless of when they applied. See section “Amount of the Grant” in the User Application Guide for details.

Applicants are required to attest that they will use the entirety of the grant on eligible expenses related to safety, security and capacity building measures against hate-related incidents for the organization (including additional non-registered chapters, if applicable). All approved applicants for both Fall 2023-24 and Winter 2023-24 will have until April 30, 2024, to incur eligible expenses on all funds received.

Fall 2023-24 approved grant recipients will not need to go through the full application process. These organizations will be required to go to the portal, provide their Canada Revenue Agency number, answer a few short questions and agree to correspondence from the Province amending the Terms and Conditions of the grant.

Applications for the grant must be submitted on or before January 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Organizations that applied for the grant in 2021-22, or 2022-23 or Fall 2023-24 may apply again for the Winter Round of 2023-24.
