TAKE NOTICE that a Public Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. to consider proposed updates to the Building By-law Fees under Section 7 of the Building Code Act, 1992, S.O. 1992, c.23

PURPOSE AND EFFECT Council of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills will be considering an amendment to the Municipality’s Building By-Law to amend the 2024 building permit fees. The amendments are to clarify wording of some categories, add fees for modular homes, retirement homes and hotels as well as standardize fees related to non-residential construction.

This fee adjustment would be effective May 1st, 2024. Moving forward, an annual building permit fee increase consistent with the StasCan Q3 Non-Residential Building Construction Price Index will be applied to building permit fees and will be effective January 1 each year.

Please note: A Public Meeting will be held each year and 21 days notice prior to the meeting will be provided. In addition to the proposed fee adjustment, an updated Building By-law is also being proposed. A report outlining the proposed changes can be found on the Municipalities website under the Council Agenda for April 9th, 2024 which is published online on April 4th 2024 at www.mississippimills.ca.

The proposed 2024 increase and future annual levy adjustment to permit fees based on the StatsCan Q3 Non-Residential Building Construction Price Index will help ensure that our fees align with the cost of service provided.

Information will be provided at the meeting on the estimated costs of enforcing the Act under the Building Code in accordance with the Building Code Act, the amount of the proposed fees and the rationale for imposing the fees.

ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed fees.
