‼HOME SAFETY TIPS

The Mississippi Mills Fire Department has responded to a number of calls since early yesterday morning. Keep you and your loved ones safe by taking the following safety precautions:

Carbon monoxide can kill in minutes. If you are using a generator, ensure it is outside and far away from windows, doors and vents. Never use inside a home or garage, even if doors and windows are open.

If you see downed power lines, assume they are live and avoid anything in contact with them.

‼WHAT WE’RE DOING

Our Public Works staff have been busy clearing brush from roadways and ensuring municipal roads are maintained. If you’re experiencing issues on your road, including potholes as a result of yesterday’s storm, you can report a concern via our website: https://www.mississippimills.ca/.../report-a-concern.aspx or call us at 613-256-2064 ext 403.

The Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met this morning and is pleased with the response times to issues and rate of ongoing clean up. There is no concern for any significant flooding at this time, however the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority advises residents in low lying areas historically susceptible to flooding should take necessary precautions. For the latest watershed conditions statements, visit: www.mvc.on.ca.

The MECG will continue to monitor the situation over the long weekend.
