On behalf of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I would like to extend my appreciation to all members of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) for their response to multiple calls over the last days. From speaking with Chief Williams, I understand that the MMFD performed their duties efficiently and professionally, ensuring that all firefighters and residents were kept safe.
A gentle reminder, please resist the temptation to speculate or share rumours about emergency calls. It is already a stressful time for the families of responders and to those personally involved in incidents. We ask the public to allow the MMFD and other emergency responders to do their work without speculation.
While most of us enjoyed times with family over the Easter weekend, the MMFD responded to 3 calls. Yesterday, they responded to 3 more calls including mutual aid to Lanark Highlands, and this morning began with another fire call. In the last 24 hours, some MMFD firefighters have logged nearly 12 hours responding to incidents in and outside of Mississippi Mills. It is not only the sacrifice of each Firefighter, but also the sacrifice of their families and loved ones that we appreciate and valued. Thank you to the entire Mississippi Mills Fire Department Family.
It was troubling to me to learn that four of the recent calls were related to improper disposal of ashes – incidents that could easily be avoided had proper protocols been followed. Burn bans, fire protocols and fire safety rules are not suggestions – we all need to respect and follow the guidance provided by the fire department. Please watch for more information from the MMFD on the importance of proper disposal of ashes.
My sincere thanks to each member of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department for their continued, dedicated service to our community. We are fortunate to have friends and neighbours who, without question, always answer the call.
