Marked annually in Canada on April 28, the National Day of Mourning is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy.

In 2022, there were 993 workplace fatalities recorded in the country, according to the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada.

This day remembers those who have lost their lives and is a call to protect the living and ensure safe and healthy conditions are established in the workplace.

To recognize the National Day of Mourning, flags at the following municipal facilities were lowered on April 26:

  • Mississippi Mills Municipal Office

  • Mississippi Mills Fire Department Station 1 (Almonte)

  • Almonte Old Town Hall

  • John Levi Community Centre

  • Ontario Clean Water Agency
