Press Release – Lanark County

Lanark County needs to hear from you!

The county is a member of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, which is a national network managed and delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability Canada. There are more than 400 municipalities involved with a shared goal of taking action against climate change and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions.

As a PCP member, Lanark County has written the first draft of its Climate Action Plan. The plan outlines how the county aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its corporate operations and from the community as a whole.

The plan includes proposed corporate actions around education, transportation and equipment, buildings and energy, waste diversion and management, and the Lanark County Housing Corporation. Community actions focus on transportation, buildings and energy, natural heritage and resources, waste diversion and management, and planning.

“Reaching Lanark County’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets will require action from everyone in the community, which is why your feedback is important to us,” explained Elizabeth Gallant, Climate Environmental Coordinator.

Access the plan and provide feedback by Aug. 28, 2023 through the survey found here: https://forms.gle/XXBRJs5Z9UnT8S917. You can also access the plan directly at https://www.lanarkcounty.ca/en/environmental-initiatives/climate.aspx.
