Highlights of the November 2nd, 2021, Council Meeting

 In recognition of Veteran’s Week (November 5 – November 11), a special version of O’Canada performed by the six Canadian Armed Forces Bands was played at the beginning of the Council meeting followed by 2 minutes of silence in honour and remembrance of those who have fallen in service to our country and to acknowledge the courage of those who serve today.  A video presentation from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) was also shared highlighting the diversity, comradery, and sacrifice of those who have served in the Canadian Military.  This video and other presentations from the CAF honouring Veteran’s Week can be viewed here.

Mississippi Mills Council has agreed to support the volunteer organizing committee to bring Puppets Up! back in 2022. Staff were directed to investigate options on how to best support the event and will  bring a report to Committee of the Whole with recommendations to outline further details and potential impacts. 

Through a recorded vote 6-1, the Mississippi Mills COVID-19 vaccination policy was approved by Council. This policy was brought forward to support the health and safety of the municipal workplace and the community. The policy will be reviewed in 6 months to determine if it is still required. 

Council accepted for information a report detailing the most recent decision of a Justice dismissing claims by Mr. Maynard against the Municipality. The Court of Appeal’s decisions was to dismiss his appeal regarding five by-laws passed by the Municipality and to award the Municipality costs in the amount of $1500.  

The following staff reports were heard by Committee of the Whole and will be brought forward at an upcoming Council meeting for final approval:

  • Community Safety Update – Fire Chief
  • Interim Control Bylaw – Limited Service Residential Zoning
  • Award of Solid Waste Collection Tender
  • Cancellation of the Joint Recreation Cost Sharing Agreement
  • Allocation of Proceeds from the Sale of 28 Mill St. 

The municipal office at 3131 Old Perth Road is open to the public for payments and for scheduled appointments only. Only one (1) person is permitted at the front desk at a time and all members of the public are required to wear a face mask while in the building. Staff will continue to check emails and voice messages regularly to continue to serve residents; please allow additional time for a response. Water samples can be dropped off at the Almonte Library branch. Payments and documents can continue to be dropped off in our secure drop box/safe at the back of the municipal office.
