Jan Watson of Home Hospice North Lanark gave Council an overview of the services and support provided by the organization to clients and their families in communities including Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Beckwith and surrounding areas.

Matthew Ayling presented to Council on Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Safety in Blakeney.  His delegation was received, and staff were directed to provide a report in response to Mr. Ayling’s suggestions.

Jeff Mills provided an overview and update on the Augusta Street Park Rehabilitation, which Council received as information. Council also directed staff to include Augusta Street Park Phase 5 (water feature) in upcoming discussions as part of the Community Services review.

Council approved a by-law to increase water and sewer rates for properties that are connected to the system pay for these services. For each account, the rate charged for consumption shall be $13.31 for every 1,000 gallons or 4.55 cubic meters. 2023 projects include the renewal of water and sanitary infrastructure on Princess Street, digital log book for drinking water system and infiltration prevent/sewer lining.  Water and Sewer infrastructure is paid for by the users and through development charges where applicable; it is not funded through taxation.

The Committee of the Whole received a quarterly update from Childcare Services, Protective Services (Fire, Bylaw and OPP) and Drinking Water Quality Management. These updates can be found on our website

Committee of the Whole also heard the following item, which will be brought forward for approval at a future Council meeting:

  • Received comments from 167 members of the public, debated the draft budget and made with the following amendments or directions (the 2023 budget will be brought back to Committee of the Whole for further discussion at the March 7, 2023 meeting):
    • Staff were directed to bring back a list of additional road projects to be funded from borrowed funds
    • Reallocate $73,000 in funds that have been unspent on previous projects to new capital projects or add these funds to the general reserves
    • Reallocate $67,000 in funds to general reserves previously budgeted for projects that will not be initiated in 2023
