Beginning in 2020, the three Municipalities of Beckwith, Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills have been in discussions with regards to the Joint Recreation Cost Sharing Agreement to make it fair for all parties involved. In a letter dated October 22, 2021 the Council of The Town of Carleton Place wrote to the Mayor of Mississippi Mills stating “That the Town of Carleton Place is terminating the Recreation and Pool components of the Howard Allan Cost Sharing Agreement”. Mississippi Mills sent a response to Carleton Place indicating our interest in negotiating a new agreement for Mississippi Mills residents to continue the use of pool services. Mississippi Mills is still awaiting a reply from the Town of Carleton Place on potential next steps.

To cover off recreation services provided in 2021 and as directed by Council, Mississippi Mills made payment to the Town of Carleton Place in the sum of $137,177.80.

Attached are the letters from the Town of Carleton Place cancelling the agreement in October of 2021 and the Mississippi Mills response with payment and an offer to continue discussions.

The Town of Carleton Place is one of our neighbouring municipalities and we are committed to working together and maintaining our strong and supportive relationship while also providing services to our residents.
