Recycling bins by the roadside

Effective July 1, 2023, the recycling program in Mississippi Mills will be managed by Circular Materials Ontario, a national not-for-profit producer committed to building efficient and effective recycling systems.

Circular Materials has contracted Emterra Environmental to administer curbside recycling collection in the Municipality.

Please note: This change affects the entire recycling program (both yellow and blue bins) in Mississippi Mills. The provincial recycling program is known as the Blue Box Program; yellow and blue bins are used in the Municipality to differentiate materials to be collected each week.

What does this mean for residents?

There will be no changes to the current recycling schedule or how you recycle your materials, but on waste collection days, garbage and recycling will be collected in separate trucks. Residents will still be able to use the Recycle Coach app and find recycling information on the Municipality’s website.

As of July 1, 2023, the Municipality is no longer administering the recycling program. All inquiries must be directed to Emterra Environmental:

If you require a replacement recycling container due to damage or loss, please contact Emterra Environmental.

Why is this change happening?

The province passed legislation in 2021 shifting financial and operational responsibility of recycling programs to producers. The transition will roll out between 2023 and 2026, with full implementation by January 1, 2026. In this new framework, producers will become fully responsible for collecting and recycling their materials when residents discard them.
