Graphic featuring Arbour Week activities in Mississippi Mills

Trees play an essential role in our everyday lives. They provide the air we breathe, the habitat for animals and clean our water.

Mississippi Mills is showing our fondness for forests by once again celebrating Arbour Week, April 22 to 28 in the Municipality.

This year, the Municipality is collaborating with the students at Almonte District High School, led by teacher Eric Young, on a week of activities being held at the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre. While being spearheaded by students and the youth of our community, these activities are open to all. Please come out, learn something new and support our local youth!

Each day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a different activity will be offered. See the full schedule below:

  • Monday, April 22  – Create woodgrain prints on paper

  • Tuesday, April 23 – Local Tree ID Challenge

  • Wednesday, April 24 – Conifer Cone Challenge

  • Thursday, April 25 – Tree Bark ID Challenge

  • Friday, April 26 – Lumber ID Challenge

In addition to the activities at the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre, informative Speaker Series and Tree Talk are returning this year.

On Monday, April 22, enjoy interacting with Almonte’s gardening guru, Ed Lawrence, for a Tree Garden Q&A at the Almonte Old Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. Hear from Will Affleck of Just Good Compost, Scott Hortop, and participate in a seedling giveaway.

On Wednesday, April 24, Blake Coleman will lead a Tree Walk & Talk at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area. The walk gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Registration is not required but please dress for the event. Participants will be walking the trails and learning about different trees on the property.

All activities offered during this week are free of charge. Special thanks to ADHS, the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre and all our partners for helping to coordinate Arbour Week 2024 in the Municipality!
