Media release from Lanark County:

Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills will be closed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week of Jan. 23 to accommodate drilling required for the foundation design of the new bridge.

The bridge consists of three structures crossing the Mississippi River between Almonte and Pakenham and is located on Blakeney Road just west of Blakeney.

Travellers can bypass the bridge by detouring north through Pakenham to Kinburn Side Road or south through Almonte to Martin Street North.

Lanark County has retained Gemtec Consulting Engineers and Scientists to conduct a foundation investigation, which involves advancing boreholes into the ground and rock, obtaining samples for testing, and providing recommendations for the new foundation design based on the existing soil and rock composition.

In December, Lanark County Council authorized the replacement of the bridge, which was built in 1915, based on recommendations from the inspection reports. Learn more at www.lanarkcounty.ca/blakeneybridge.

“This work is a key step to the next stages off the replacement of this bridge,” explained Sean Derouin, public works manager. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure.”
