Tree Removal to Begin in Gemmill Park on Monday, July 13

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills will begin tree removal work in a small area of Gemmill Park in Almonte on Monday, July 13. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
This work is required as part of the County Road 29 Watermain Project and will take place mainly along the access road to Well 6.
A map of the affected areas is shown above. The area highlighted in blue marks the primary tree removal zone. The area outlined in red, which includes Hole 9 of the Almonte Disc Golf Course, will also be impacted by the work.
To reduce impacts on the natural environment, municipal staff and the project contractor have worked closely with environmental specialists and an arborist to limit the number of trees removed and reduce impacts on wildlife and the surrounding habitat. Only trees and vegetation necessary to accommodate the project will be removed.
Most of the vegetation being removed consists of scrub brush and smaller growth. Some larger trees will also need to be removed. In some cases, these trees are in poor health; in others, removal is necessary to safely complete the project. Wherever possible, removed wood will be put to good use. A local artisan will receive some of the wood from healthy trees to create handcrafted wood products.
Impacts to Almonte Disc Golf Course
Hole 9 of the Almonte Disc Golf Course will be closed while this work is underway. Visitors are asked to stay clear of the work area and follow all posted signage.
Staff and the contractor will work to reopen Hole 9 as quickly as possible. However, it will remain closed until further notice.
