Public Notice – Spring Road Conditions

Winter’s freeze-thaw cycle and our rainy spring have taken a toll on local roads. We know conditions aren’t ideal right now.

A quick reminder – grading can’t happen when our gravel roads are saturated. Working heavy equipment on wet gravel only pushes mud around, creating uneven surfaces, more potholes and long-term damage.

The following video from the Kent County Road Commission in Michigan provides a good explanation on what happens to our road surfaces when transitioning from winter to spring.

We’re watching the forecast closely, and our Roads and Public Works team is ready to begin grading as soon as conditions dry out. Staff are prepared to work into the evenings and on weekends to get the grading completed as quickly and safety as possible.

Until then, please slow down on gravel roads to help protect both your vehicle and the road base.

If you spot a concern – potholes, culverts, sidewalks, anything – let us know through the ‘Report a Road Maintenance Concern’ tool on our website. Report it directly to our Roads and Public Works team.
