TD Summer Reading Club
What is it?
The TD Summer Reading Club is a free reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities – including pre-readers! This free club is offered in libraries across Canada, as well as online. The club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way.
Here’s how it works at MMPL, kids!
Register: Sign up for the TD Summer Reading Club at either branch (now until the end of summer). You will receive a free activity book, stickers, and a special sign-up bonus! Commit to the summer by adding your name to the “fishbowl” wall and pick up your MMPL Monday Missions card.
Set a goal: Set your own goal and keep track of your reading. We have bookmarks and colouring pages to help you out!
What will YOUR goal be?
- Read a book a week?
- Read for a total of 24 hours?
- Read 10 of the TD Summer Reading Club Recommended Reads?
For a list of the Recommended Reads that we have available at MMPL go here: https://missmills.bibliocommons.com
Have fun:
Complete the Monday Missions: On Mondays starting in July, we’ll have a fun weekly mission to help the water in the “fishbowl” rise to keep your fish happy. Complete the challenge and report back to the library to get your mission card stamped and choose a treasure! Each week you successfully complete a mission, your name will also be entered to win the grand prize draw on August 31!

Go for a StoryWalk® in the Almonte & District Horticultural Society Garden behind the Almonte branch, or around the Pakenham branch building. Read the story of Colette: The Solitary Bee by Jean-François Sénéchal. Add to the fun by completing a crossword puzzle or search and find! Ask at front desk for activity sheets.

EKF Literacy Tutoring
EKF Literacy Tutoring is back! The Elizabeth Kelly Foundation Literacy Program is a FREE program designed to cultivate an understanding and love for reading in students from grades 1-3. A trained literacy tutor will work one-on-one with students in five key areas of literacy instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
Each student will attend a daily (Monday-Friday) one-hour session over the duration of two weeks, totaling 10 hours of one-on-one tutoring. We provide a comfortable, safe and flexible learning environment, with a variety of activities and resources that are tailored to each child’s specific needs. Children who have participated in this program in the past have made huge strides in their reading and writing skills and have had a lot of fun doing it!
If you feel that your child would benefit from literacy tutoring, please contact your child’s teacher now and ask for their recommendation and access to the forms needed for registration. Homeschooling? Please reach out to your local library branch now to see if the program is right for you!
