Press Release – Lanark County

Lanark County will begin construction on the second phase of the Five Span Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Pakenham on Monday, May 11, 2026. Due to the complex nature of the work, a full road closure will be in effect at the bridge location for the duration of the project, which continues until November.

The contract has been awarded to BEI (Bonnechere Excavating Inc.). Work includes masonry and stone repairs, improvements to the road approaches, and installation of new lighting beneath and on the bridge to enhance safety while preserving the structure for long-term use.

“To allow the project to be completed safely and efficiently, no through traffic will be permitted at the bridge location while construction is underway,” explained Public Works Manager Sam Poole. “Signed detour routes will be posted in advance of the closure and maintained throughout the construction period.”

Signed detour route

The signed detour route will follow Upper Dwyer Hill Road and Galletta Side Road to County Road 29 and is expected to add approximately 10 minutes to travel times. Detour signage will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Businesses in the Village of Pakenham remain open and accessible throughout construction. All are welcome to continue shopping, dining and enjoying local attractions during the summer season.

“The County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this essential rehabilitation work is completed,” Poole said.

Project updates will be provided as construction progresses. For more information, visit www.lanarkcounty.ca/5arches.
