Volunteers Wanted for 2026 Mississippi Mills Community Poppy Project

The Mississippi Mills Poppy Project is in its third year as a collaborative community art project of remembrance, honouring Canadian Veterans who have served, and personnel currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces for their service and sacrifice to our country.
In 2024, over 300 individuals participated. In 2025, over 105 new individuals participated. Over 18,000 poppies were hand-knitted and hand-crocheted. Several new individuals have asked that the project be continued. A few more places that would like to have poppy displays for remembrance. Our objective this year 7,000 hand-knitted and hand-crocheted.

You can participate by knitting and / or crocheting red poppies with black centres. Contact Mary at the above address for patterns and more information.
Completed poppies can be dropped off at the following locations:
- Almonte Old Town Hall
- Mississippi Mills Public Library – Almonte Branch
- Mississippi Valley Textile Museum
- Textile Traditions
- Levi Home Hardware
- Orchard View Gardens
- Mississippi Mills Public Library – Pakenham Branch
Last drop-off date for 2026 is Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
If you cannot knit or crochet, other ways you can participate in this collaborative community project are:
- Tie poppies on to netting at the public library branches in Almonte and Pakenham
- Tack poppies together (locations to be determined)
- Install poppy displays in Almonte, Pakenham and Clayton on November 1
- Take poppy displays down the week after Remembrance Day and bring displays to the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum for hanging to air dry prior to storage
- Hang poppy displays in the textile museum to air dry prior to storage
- Help with storage of poppy displays in January
