From April 11 to May 15, Sivarulrasa Gallery is delighted to present DALE DUNNING: EARLY WORKS in Gallery I. The exhibition presents a curated selection of works in bronze, created by artist Dale Dunning from 1978 to 2004. A leading Canadian sculptor, Dale Dunning was born in Ottawa and has worked from his foundry near Almonte, Ontario for over four decades. The works showcase the artist’s mastery of bronze as a medium of choice to give form to his vivid imagination and originality.
Dale Dunning’s sculpture often begins with a generic head or mask as a point of departure. From there he creates works that reflect his engagement with the psyche, material processes, and the layered meanings. “My sculptures are objects of reflection and contemplation,” he notes.
Dale Dunning received a BFA from Mount Allison University (1969), where he developed a strong foundation in painting, printmaking, figure drawing, sculpture, and art history. He later completed an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art (1971), where he learned the fundamentals of bronze and aluminum casting. In decades of work since then, he has exhibited in many solo and group shows including in Almonte, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and New York.

LIZ JACKSON: BLANKETED runs in Gallery III. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan and now based in Ompah, Ontario, Liz Jackson’s work is rooted in the natural environment. Her interest is in creating abstract works inspired by her geography on the Canadian Shield.
The works in Blanketed are inspired by themes of winter. “This series of paintings is about the winter glimpses that catch the eye under a blanket of snow”, she says. “As the snow changes on the Canadian Shield, so do the glimpses of rocks, lichen and dried foliage.” Her process explores gestural abstraction, where the act of mark-making shapes the painting as much as the final image.
The artist builds layered surfaces with inks, graphite, coloured pencils, and pastels, at times incorporating collage elements such as papers, sand, screening, and cheesecloth to create texture and depth. Her approach to composition is guided by both observation and intuition. The resulting works occupy a space at the boundary of representation, inviting the viewer to consider landscape through a contemporary lens. Her works have been exhibited in Ontario and are held in private collections in Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Meet the artists at the Vernissage/Artists Reception on Saturday April 11, 2 to 4 p.m.
