Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Today we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
This is a day that honours the memory of the children who never returned home, and recognizes the strength and resilience of survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities. Public acknowledgment of this tragic and painful history – and its lasting impacts – is an essential step in the journey toward meaningful reconciliation.
Flags at municipal facilities have been lowered to half-mast today in recognition of this important day of remembrance and reflection.

Ways to honour the day in Mississippi Mills:
The second annual Reconciliation Through Art continues today at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It includes an Indigenous Art Showcase and teachings.
Indigenous educators and storytellers are also visiting local schools throughout the day to share teachings and reflections.
