Significant Watermain Leak in Almonte Ward – Leak Detection Program and Precautionary Watering Ban

Graphic highlighting significant watermain leak

The Municipality’s Roads and Public Works Department is actively investigating a significant watermain leak within the municipal water system.

To identify the source of the leak, staff will begin a comprehensive leak detection program starting overnight on Monday, June 23, between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Testing will continue throughout the week in different areas of the system.

What to expect:

During testing periods, residents may experience:

  • Temporary drops in water pressure
  • Discoloured water

These impacts are normal during testing. If you notice discoloured water after testing, run a cold water tap for 10 minutes to help clear it.

Watering ban in effect – Starting Friday, June 20

While the quality and quantity of water aren’t impacted, the high levels of production currently being experienced provide concern for the water-related infrastructure, including the wells and pumps. To reduce overall system demand, a precautionary watering ban is now in effect. Please turn off any automatic lawn sprinklers or irrigation systems.

Important notes:

  • Municipal drinking water remains safe and clean.
  • There is no risk of running out of water.
  • These measures are being taken to protect and preserve the integrity of the municipal water system infrastructure.

How you can help:

Residents are encouraged to report the following:

  • Unusual water pooling or wet areas on or near your property
  • Noise or vibration from your water meter
  • Frequent sump pump activity during dry weather

Please email your observations to PW@mississippimills.ca and include your name, address and contact information.
