Severe Thunderstorm Watch – March 16, 2026

Environment Canada has issued a yellow (moderate) severe thunderstorm watch for the region today.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain this afternoon as a sharp cold front blasts through the area.
Rain will change to snow late Monday evening. During the transition from rain to snow, there is a risk of brief freezing rain. Snow may be heavy at times, bringing 5-15 cm, and moderate to strong wind gusts will cause reduced visibility in falling and blowing snow. Snow is expected to taper off in the early morning hours on Tuesday.
This may cause:
- Difficult driving conditions
- Power outages
- Damage to roofs, fences, trees or soft shelters
- Possible localized flooding
Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
