Sections of the OVRT to be Closed for Maintenance Starting July 28
Press Release – Lanark County
Four sections of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) will be under rolling closures beginning Monday, July 28 from Ridge Road to Shaw Road to permit trail grading and application of stone dust to the trail surface.
Locations where work will be taking place on the OVRT include:
- Ridge Road to Panmure Road
- Needham Road to Pakenham Bridge over the Mississippi River
- Waba Road to Barr Side Road
- Pakenham 12th Concession to Shaw Road
Closures will begin on the OVRT with the Ridge Road to Panmure Road section.
“Lanark County has retained Crains Construction to conduct resurfacing on multiple sections of the OVRT,” explained Public Works Manager Sam Poole. “Ongoing maintenance ensures safety, accessibility and resiliency for trail users.”
Trail closures will be in effect as resurfacing work progresses through each trail section. Due to a lack of feasible detour routes, detour signage will not be in place for the duration of the work.
The opening of the OVRT in Lanark County has created a transportation corridor for pedestrians, cyclists, four-wheelers and snowmobilers travelling from Sturgess Road (just north of Smiths Falls) to Arnprior and beyond. With multi-purpose, year-round use, the OVRT connects three of Lanark County’s prettiest towns.
