Press Release – Lanark County

Sections of Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) will be under rolling closures for approximately two weeks beginning Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from Ramsay Concession 8 to Smart Street to permit trail maintenance and brushing.

Locations where work will be taking place on the OVRT include:

  • Ramsay Concession 8 To County Road 29
  • County Road 29 to Smart Street

Closures will begin on the OVRT with the Ramsay Concession 8 to County Road 29 section.

“Lanark County has retained Crains Construction to conduct brushing on sections of the OVRT,” explained Public Works Manager Sam Poole. “Ongoing maintenance ensures safety, accessibility and resiliency for trail users.”

Trail closures will be in effect as brushing and maintenance work progresses through each trail section. Due to a lack of feasible detour routes, detour signage will not be in place for the duration of the work. Further notice will be given when the work is completed.

The opening of the OVRT in Lanark County has created a transportation corridor for pedestrians, cyclists, four-wheelers and snowmobilers travelling from Sturgess Road (just north of Smiths Falls) to Arnprior and beyond. With multi-purpose, year-round use, the OVRT connects three of Lanark County’s prettiest towns.
