Remembrance Day 2025 in Mississippi Mills

Man in suit pins poppy to woman in white blazer with flags in the background

Remembrance Day celebrations have played a major role in Canada since 1931. Every year, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Canadians gather to stand in honour of all who have fallen.

This year’s Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign kicked off on Friday, October 31. To mark the campaign’s launch, President of Almonte Legion Branch 240, Rob Madore, pinned the first poppy on Mayor Christa Lowry.

Over the next two weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, look for poppy boxes at the Municipal Office, as well as local businesses. All donations directly support veterans and their families and help ensure Canadians never forget their sacrifices. This year, there are eight electronic poppy boxes throughout the community, including at the Almonte Legion, Nicholson's in Pakenham and Clayton General Store.

Want to volunteer? The Legion is looking for volunteers to assist with distributing poppies. If you'd like to help, contact the Almonte Legion at 613-256-2142.
