Ontario Building More Accessible Communities – Applications Now Open for $2.25M in Community Accessibility Grants

The Ontario government is investing $2.25 million to protect, strengthen and expand access to inclusive, barrier free community spaces across the province. Ontario has opened applications for the second round of the Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) Grant, which awards up to $60,000 for small capital projects that improve accessibility and support active, healthy lifestyles for people with disabilities and older adults.

“Our government is continuing to make critical investments to ensure people of all ages and abilities stay active, engaged and connected to their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “As we open applications for the EASE Grant, I encourage organizations across Ontario to come forward with projects that create accessible, welcoming and inclusive spaces.”

The EASE Grant provides funding to municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous governing bodies to support small capital improvements, including retrofits that make community spaces safer, more accessible and more responsive to the needs of people with disabilities and older adults. Examples of potential projects include installing charging stations for mobility devices, installing mobility mats at beaches and building accessible washrooms at parks.

Earlier this year, the Ontario government announced the first round of EASE Grant recipients, whose projects are now underway across the province.

Examples of current projects include:

• The Township of Central Frontenac is receiving up to $58,000 to retrofit Olden Community Hall by installing a ramp, railings, and a new door with a power operator.
• Environment Network is receiving up to $42,000 to retrofit Collingwood Community Garden with accessible pathways, raised beds, seating, and wayfinding systems.
• Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is receiving up to $58,000 to enhance its age-friendly outdoor spaces by installing an inclusive playground, accessible kayak launch, and upgraded picnic tables.
• Brock Township Public Library Board is receiving up to $27,000 to renovate Beaverton Library’s service counter and computer area with height-adjustable desks, ergonomic shelving, and visual enhancements.

The EASE Grant is part of the government’s ongoing work to help communities remove physical barriers, modernize public spaces and ensure that more Ontarians can participate fully in community life.

Applications for the EASE Grant are now open at Ontario.ca/EaseGrant. Eligible organizations have until May 7, 2026 to submit their applications.

• Eligible organizations must apply for an Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant through Transfer Payment Ontario.
• The EASE Grant replaces the EnAbling Change Program and the Inclusive Community Grants Program to maximize impact for older adults and people living with disabilities.
