Notice of Infection Prevention and Control Lapse at Carleton Place Beauty Bar

Press Release – Southeast Public Health

Southeast Public Health (SEPH) has identified infection prevention and control concerns at Ivy Beauty Bar at 545 McNeely Ave. in Carleton Place. Clients who received manicure, pedicure or waxing services between May 31, 2023 and October 17, 2025 may have been exposed to equipment that was not properly cleaned and disinfected. These services are generally low risk for infections when infection prevention and control procedures are followed. However, improperly cleaned and disinfected instruments can potentially lead to transmission of blood-borne infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and to a lesser extent, HIV. At this time, no infection or illness has been linked to this location.

Ivy Beauty Bar has taken immediate corrective measures and now meets the required infection prevention and control standards necessary to operate safely.

While the risk of blood-borne infection is assessed to be low, SEPH recommends that clients who received these services between May 31, 2023 and October 17, 2025, consult a health-care provider to discuss their personal risk and, if deemed appropriate, be tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.

“Although the risk of infection is low in this case, we want to urge any person who may have been exposed to infection to speak with a health-care provider and to pursue testing, if recommended,” says Dr. Ethan Toumishey, Deputy Medical Officer of Health for Southeast Public Health.
