MRHA to Display Indigenous Flags Across All Sites in Recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Indigenous flag

Media Advisory – Mississippi River Health Alliance

The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) will mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Every Child Matters/Orange Shirt Day by formally displaying Indigenous flags across its sites.

The Anishinaabe flag will be raised at Almonte General Hospital, Fairview Manor, and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital. At Lanark County Paramedic Service (LCPS), paramedics will display the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Flag and wear orange epaulettes. With LCPS operating multiple bases across Lanark County and serving communities on different unceded territories, this approach ensures representation that is both respectful and meaningful.

In addition, all Canada flags at MRHA sites will be lowered to half-mast on September 30 in remembrance of the children who never came home from residential schools and in acknowledgement of survivors and their communities.

These actions reflect the MRHA’s ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI&B) and its recognition of First Nations peoples, including the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation on whose traditional territory we live and work.
