Flood Preparedness – Where to Find Updates, Sandbags and Resources

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) issued a flood warning for the Mississippi River watershed as of April 22. A flood warning means flooding is imminent or already occurring.
Mississippi Mills waterways form part of the Mississippi River watershed, which is monitored and managed by the MVCA. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on water levels and flood conditions in our community, please rely on MVCA updates.

Sandbags available to residents
During flood watches and warnings, the Municipality provides sand and sandbags to residents who need them.
Sandbags are available at the Roads and Public Works Garage at 3131 Old Perth Road. Please contact the Roads and Public Works Department in advance to request the number of bags you require: 613-256-2064 or PW@mississippimills.ca.
Residents are encouraged to review the Municipal Sandbag Policy.
Well water and localized flooding
Southeast Public Health advises residents whose wells have been directly affected by flooding to:
- Boil water for at least one minute at a rolling boil before consuming, or
- Use an alternate safe water source until testing confirms the water is safe to drink.
SEPH also recommends regular water testing, as heavy rain and snowmelt can impact drinking water quality.
