From Lanark Community Alliance

Community Living Association Lanark County (CLA) is inviting compassionate individuals and families to consider becoming Family Home Providers through its Family Home Program.

As demand for inclusive, family-style living arrangements continues to grow, CLA is reaching out to community members who may be interested in opening their homes to an adult with an intellectual disability seeking stability, belonging, and meaningful connection.

What is a Family Home Provider?

A Family Home Provider shares their home with an adult supported by CLA, offering a safe, stable, and inclusive environment rooted in everyday family life.

This may look like shared meals, evening routines, community activities, and quiet moments at home. It means building a relationship based on respect, trust, and mutual understanding.

Family Home placements are thoughtfully matched to ensure compatibility and long-term success for everyone involved.

As one individual supported through the program shared:

“I love living here rather than alone.”

And from a Home Provider:

“It’s like having a new family.”

A Person-Centred Approach

Like all CLA services, the Family Home Program is guided by a person-centered philosophy — balancing what is important for a person with what is important to them.

The goal is to support adults 18+ in:

  • Living in a safe and secure home
  • Building meaningful relationships
  • Growing in independence and confidence
  • Participating fully in community life

A family home is more than a place to live. It is a place to belong.

Who Might Consider Becoming a Family Home Provider?

Family Home Providers in Lanark County come from many different walks of life.

You might consider this opportunity if you are:

  • An empty nester
  • Retired or semi-retired
  • A couple with a stable household
  • Community-minded and patient
  • Interested in supporting someone’s independence and inclusion

Formal credentials are not required. Compassion, reliability, and a welcoming home environment are what matter most.

Ongoing Support and Guidance

Opening your home is a meaningful commitment, and CLA provides support every step of the way.

Home providers receive:

  • A structured approval and matching process
  • Orientation and training
  • Ongoing professional guidance
  • Regular communication with CLA staff
  • Remuneration for the support provided

Our goal is to ensure that both the home provider and the individual supported feel confident, respected, and well-supported throughout the journey.
