The Municipality’s annual sanitary sewer flushing and inspection program began August 5 and will continue until the end of August in Almonte Ward.

Crews from Clean Water Works will be doing the work, which is part of the Municipality’s annual maintenance program for the municipal system. Flushing and inspections are done in accordance with Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks guidelines.

Why is this done?

The sanitary sewer flushing and inspection program keeps the system operating efficiently by:

  • Helping prevent blockages and backups by removing sediments, grease and debris
  • Allowing for detailed inspections of all sanitary sewers to determine their condition

What can I expect?

  • Presence of crews performing work in neighbourhoods
  • Some noise from equipment used for cleaning

Do I need to do anything?

Sometimes during cleaning and inspection, air pressure in the sewer line can cause water to splash out through sinks and drains. Take the following precautions:

  • Cover your basement floor drains and close toilet lids to prevent splash back from pressurized cleaning
  • Place drain plugs in all sinks and bathtubs when not in use
  • Place an old towel around the base of toilets to absorb any splash back
  • When out on roadways, watch for crews and equipment
