Since the Municipality’s last public update on May 21, the Chief Building Official (CBO) has received the final report from the Municipality’s engineer, confirming sufficient work has been completed to address unsafe conditions related to public safety.  

Due to this, the CBO has amended the unsafe order and order prohibiting occupancy to apply only to the inside areas of the building on the Union Street end. The works done by the Municipality were only the minimum required to make the building safe, not to repair it to allow for occupancy of the two residential units.  

The engineer’s report also identified other areas of the building that are below accepted maintenance standards.  The CBO has issued a property standards order to the owner to address these items. The owner has a deadline to provide a repair plan by September 2, 2025 for some minor items and March 2, 2026, for the items which require substantial work. 

As stated previously, all costs associated with these works have been invoiced back to the property owner.
